Auckland Studio Potters: Fire & Clay
19 November, 2014 - 14 December, 2014

Opening Tuesday 18 November, 6-8pm.

Fire and Clay celebrates excellence in ceramic practice. This year’s exhibition, selected by Moyra Elliott, comprises recent ceramic works by over 40 of the best ceramic artists and potters from Auckland and beyond. The exhibition demonstrates both the depth and breadth of experience of ASP members.

She was the recipient of the Creative New Zealand Biannual Craft/Object Art Fellowship, and in 2010 was the inaugural winner of the Taiwan International Ceramics Biennial Curatorial Award. Moyra is co-author of a book on the history of New Zealand studio ceramics between 1940-1980, Cone Ten Down, which was a finalist in the 2010 New Zealand Post Book Awards.

About the Auckland Studio Potters

The ASP was founded in the early 1960s and incorporated as a society in 1972. It is now a successful community organisation with over 350 members, promoting pottery and ceramics at all levels in the Auckland region. Our services include a comprehensive programme of classes offered in a premier teaching facility. Each week up to 9 day and night classes are held, ranging from beginners to advanced students. A Diploma in Ceramics is administered from Dunedin with studio modules taught at the Auckland Studio Potters Centre in Onehunga. The ASP also caters for community groups, play centres, special needs groups, and school children.

Works in the exhibition are available for sale through the Pah Gallery Shop. The shop carries ceramic work by ASP members and other ceramic artists, as well as a range of New Zealand art in a variety of mediums.
