Immerse yourself in the mesmerising fusion of Global Strings’ Echoes of East Meets West, a unique musical collaboration where the soulful sounds of the sitar, the soaring melodies of the violin, and the rhythmic pulse of the Tabla unite. This harmonious blend of Indian classical and contemporary Western music creates a rich tapestry of sound that transcends cultural boundaries.

From the intricate ragas of Indian classical to the improvisational spirit of jazz and Western classical music, this performance bridges worlds and traditions, transporting audiences on a sonic journey from East to West.

 

Featuring:

  • Basant Madhur (Tabla) – Award-winning tabla player who has collaborated with Grammy Award-winning Indian musicians. Known for projects such as Shades of Shakti, Indo Celtic Trio, and India Meets Ireland.

  • Monique Lapins (Violin) – Former second violinist of the New Zealand String Quartet and lecturer at the New Zealand School of Music, Victoria University of Wellington. Now, Associate Concertmaster with the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra.

  • Sargam Madhur (Sitar) – A gifted young sitar player from New Zealand, featured in Arts on Tour projects and prestigious festivals across the country.

  • Akhil Madhur ( Tabla ) –A wonderful tabla player & percussionist , trained under the guidance of renowned Indian musicians, performed many prestigious festivals in India & New Zealand.

Inspired by the iconic collaborations between sitar maestro Ravi Shankar and violinist Yahudi Menuhin, Global Strings present a captivating concert where the soulful strains of Monique Lapin’s Western violin intertwine with the meditative melodies of the Indian sitar, grounded by the intricate rhythms of the tabla.
