Music at Midday:
Alan Stacey

Alan Stacey’s repertoire is drawn from 6 decades of playing in England, Ireland, the Pacific Islands , and New Zealand. His music is influenced by such diverse musicians as The Dubliners, Fairport Convention, Mississippi John Hurt, Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, and more.

Alan came to New Zealand from his native Leicestershire, England in 1993 to join his friend and band associate Conor MacSwiney, who had established a residency in Murphy's Irish bar in Wellesley street, Auckland. He played a five-string banjo, guitar, and also helped out on vocals.

Together, they formed The Dogs Bollix band and later opened their own establishment called The Dogs Bollix Bar, which they ran for ten years. Alan remained in Auckland and started up the Thirsty Dog Folk Club on K–Road, which ran for 8 years.

He now play gigs at pubs , the Auckland Irish Society, Sunday markets, and retirement villages. He also plays the melodeon for the Auckland Morris Dancer.
